Performance Management Success Stories
The Challenge
A leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer was experiencing
significant employee dissatisfaction with their their annual
performance review process.
Listen & Learn -
The Issues
-
Dissatisfaction
stemmed from a lack of involvement employees had in the process
-
Little
communication to
employees on the review process
-
Employees felt the
process was completely subjective
-
Management was
frustrated at the amount of time the employee review process would
take – spending 2-3 days for each employee review
Plan
Rather than developing a
whole new performance review process, a customized Managing My
Performance class was proposed. The course would be customized
to educate employees on the specifics of the company review process
and most importantly, provide
tools for employees to play a proactive role in managing their performance
throughout the year.
Implement
-
The customized “Managing
My Performance” class was given to 100 new employees, as well as
several “at risk” groups
-
After extremely
successful pilots with both groups, the organization made the
commitment to implement the program company wide
-
1:1 coaching with pilot
group provided more feedback for future classes
Follow Through - The Results
“ This knowledge has
given me more confidence to take control of my own performance goals
and objectives. Now my manager doesn’t have to do all the work!”
- Chemical Engineer
This organization has
seen a significant increase in the morale and receptiveness to the
annual review process. Employee response is overwhelmingly positive,
and employees state that they feel empowered to help manage their
careers.
In addition, managers
found that the time it took to perform annual reviews has decreased
significantly because their employees are playing a more active role
in managing performance.
This program has become
a standard in the new hire orientation process.
